The following items must be considered when selecting the necessary components for a TSM Medium Tool Stand System.

You should know: What size Tool Changer you are using, what utilities are being passed, and size, shape, and Center of Gravity of end-effector and tooling.

  • Select the Mounting Module

Determine what size Tool Changer and utility modules are being used. Then determine how the robot will drop off the tools when placing them onto the Tool Stand.

Option #1 – Horizontal-style Mounting Module if the Tool Changer needs to remain in the horizontal orientation.
    TSM Mounting Module

Option #2 – Vertical-style Mounting Module for all other applications.

Option #3 – A Locking Mounting Block System with a horizontal rail for mounting can be considered for applications where tooling hoses and cables work against the weight of the tool.

  • Select the Tooling Plate

Standard Blank TP assemblies - ATI can supply a standard length, blank tooling plate with mounting features for the Tool Changer only. You will be required to provide whatever additional mounting features are needed for the application.

Custom TP Assemblies - You can request custom mounting patterns be added to the Tooling Plate assemblies at the time of ordering. ATI will generate specific custom part numbers for you. You will be required to provide ATI with the information necessary to machine your plate to specification. Lead times and pricing will vary.

  • Post and Rail Components

Determine how this equipment will be positioned and mounted to the floor. There are infinite options for configuring tool mounting. Here are the primary questions that need to be asked at this time: How many tools are in the robot cell? How much floor space is available? Depending on robot reach, how close do the tools need to be to each other? Choose whether you need multiple or only one TSM post. They are available in several standard heights, but additional custom heights are available upon request. Build upon this post by adding horizontal rails and extensions. You can mount light end-effectors on a single post. Heavier tools will need shorter posts or additional support.

  • Debris Protection

There are many options for debris covers. Consideration should be taken as to whether the application requires the covers to be self-actuated or can the robot pick up and drop off tool covers in between tool change cycles? Answers to these questions will help determine the correct cover for the TSM tooling. Contact ATI if you do not see exactly what you are looking for.
